Untitled
by TJ Beckett

I sat there, my butt numb from the plane ride and my back sore from the pot holes the cab driver didn't seem to notice were on the road. I looked at the scenery that crossed the view of the window and got more and more excited by the second. I would finally be able to see him.

I had happened a long time ago. Tommy and I had met online, kept in touch vaguely for the first little while. At first it was an interest, I was interested in writing and Tommy was a writer. Two plus two equals four right? So we chatted. Our relationship developed a lot over the course of a year and even though neither of us could exactly explain what had happened, but we'd developed a kind of brotherly relationship that progressed and strengthened over time.

The car turned into a driveway. "This is the place." The cabdriver said, his voice raspy and broken most likely from smoking a pack and a half a day. I stepped out of the cab and paid the driver. I would have tipped if he'd swerved some of the potholes.

I went to the front doors and opened it, my heart racing. I walked over to the stairs and looked up. It was pretty high, but the adrenalin that was currently pumping through me let me take them all in 30 seconds. With every step I felt my stomach flutter with anticipation.

I finally got to the door. And I must have run out of adrenalin because my legs were jelly. I knocked on the door, the sound echoing in the hall. The door clicked and opened. My smile panged when I saw it wasn't Tommy. Then I remembered who this was.

"Doug!" I exclaimed, dropping my bag and hugging him. I needed to hug someone, there were way too many rushes going on for me to just stand there. I pulled out of the hug and Doug smiled at me.

"You must be TJ." He said with a smile. His buzz cut and strong jaw was defiantly working for him, but I wasn't here for him.

"Is Tommy here?" I asked.

"Nope." Doug replied, plunking on the couch. "He left to get groceries about an hour ago."

"Oh," I mumbled, looking towards the floor.

"Common dude," Doug said, getting up from the couch and dragging me onto it with him. "He's coming right back. He said he didn't want to go but your flight was supposed to be here at eight-o-clock."

"I got up at six in the morning just so that I could surprise him." I said, my hopes back up knowing that he was only gone for a moment. "When did he leave?" I asked.

"About an hour ago." Doug replied. "He should be home any second. We can watch some TV or something while we wait, if you want." He suggested.

"Sure." I said before remembering that I had been stuck in a cab for about 40 minutes and on a plane all day. "Um, but first I have to use your bathroom."

As I was washing my hands I heard a click and a slam through the door. My heart started racing again, I didn't even know why I was so excited, but something just seemed to come over me every time I thought about finally meeting the guy that I thought of as my big brother, a close friend.

"Have you heard anything from TJ yet?" Tommy yelled from what sounded like the kitchen. I cracked the door open a bit and peeked through the crack.

"You mean, did he call yet?" Doug asked with a goofy smile.

"Yeah."

"Nope, TJ hasn't called sense yesterday when he said he was getting on the plane, remember?" Doug said. He looked at the door and saw my eye, then he winked and turned back to Tommy. "You should remember, considering you were both up until two this morning talking about what you were both going to do." He chuckled with himself but Tommy didn't seem to notice anything.

"What time is it? Four-o-clock? Okay, so that means he should be here soon. It's too bad he couldn't get here earlier; we could have gone out for dinner. I'll just make us something quick." Tommy said while unloading groceries from a few bags and placing them in their proper places.

"Right now Tommy? I'm not even hungry! It's only four!" Doug teased and he glanced at the door once more before heading into his bedroom. "By the way," He shouted through the wall, "My internet isn't working, do you think you can fix it for me?"

"Right now?" Tommy asked sounding like a kid being told to do an extra chore.

"Please." Came Doug's voice, matching the tone Tommy had just used.

I watched Tommy go by and walk into Doug's room. I stepped out of the bathroom quietly and creeped into the kitchen, where I found a bag and a half of abandoned food. I began to fumble through the fridge, trying to move around vegetables to fit the lettuce in. Upon closing the door I could hear Tommy voice growing louder as he came out of Doug's room.

"Your internet works fine Dou—"

"Tommy, where do you put your cereal?" I asked his perplexed face.

He spent no time answering my question. He rushed to me and grabbed me, squeezed me so tight that I dropped the box of Honeycomb. For a moment I thought he would kill me unless he loosened his grip, but I returned the hug and squeezed him, never wanting to let go. I don't know how long we stood there but I noticed that when we finally retired from the hug, Doug had put away all the other groceries.

We both moved to the couch, never breaking contact with each other. We sat there for a solid two hours talking about anything that drifted into our stream of conscience. Doug's eyes followed our conversation, he sat with us and smiled not only at how stupid we both must have sounded, but at the fact that we were both genuinely happy.

I talked to Doug for a bit, we had gotten onto a topic that we both had the same views on and really connected for a wile. It was important to me, because I wanted to be in Tommy's life and I could only do that through his friends and family.

"I have an idea," Tommy said, "Why don't we go out for dinner?"

"The three of us?" Doug asked.

"No," I said and for the moment I could see the smile on Tommy's face melt into confusion. "I want to meet Wendy, Ben, and Nick too." And Tommy's smile reappeared with a vengeance.

So we did just that. After a few phone calls, everyone was set to meet at the olive garden. I had suggested it seeing that I had never been to one before and wasn't completely sure they even had one in Canada.

That night consisted of Wendy and Ben asking me for my life's story and then I changed the topic shortly after describing the shaky event that took place before my birth. To tell you the truth, my childhood is fairly depressing, which does not make for great dinner party talk.

They bombarded me with questions and I answered them all. I really liked everyone and I could tell they liked me too. Eventually the restaurant closed and we all went home stuffed. Doug was no sooner in the door then off to his bedroom. Tommy informed me that he had been at work all morning and it was understandable that he would be ready for bed. It was late, about one in the morning and I was a little jetlagged and most likely had huge bags under my eyes.

"What do we do now?" I asked through a yawn. Wondering if Tommy would feel like following suit with his room mate and head off to bed.

"Watch a movie with me…" He said quietly. I followed him over to a shelf harboring several dozen DVD's. Most I had already seen but there were a few that I hadn't.

We decided on "Darkness Falls". I'm not really a big horror watcher, but I was swayed. Tommy put the movie in and sat down beside me. About fifteen minutes into the move, we had moved so close together that he was almost in my lap and our arms were around each other again in reminiscince of the hug that we had shared when I showed up only hours ago. Twenty minutes after that, I was very literally laying on his lap with my head resting on his stomach.

The movie ended and the credits rolled by, I got up and put in another movie though I didn't really intend on watching it. We were both very tired but it was just an excuse to stay together just a little bit longer. The movie started and Tommy began combing my hair through his fingers.

"Tommy,"

He stopped and looked down at me "Yeah?"

"I love you." I whispered.

Without missing a beat Tommy bent down and whispered in my ear, "I love you, too, Cutie."

Author's note:

This story is based on a dream I had. Okay, so some of you are wondering why I'm dreaming about being in Storyville, well stop because I didn't dream about Storyville. Julien and I are friends, and this is what my mind made of our first encounter while I slept.
